Crest Castle is a ‘keeper’ in Research

crest castle

They say a man’s home is his castle, but a bed and breakfast currently on the market in Research, VIC could literally be. ‘The Crest Castle‘, a home currently operating as a B&B with a permit for up 30 people, is for sale within walking distance of the local shopping centre. The property comes with a lot of the features you might well expect of a castle, including turrets, ornamental lake with overhanging willow, banquet hall and a moat of sorts, in the  form of a heated hydrotherapy spa pool. Status of Gough Whitlam home in limbo as demolition is intervened

gough whitlam

Plans for the birthplace of former Australian prime minister Gough Whitlam are currently in limbo after the demolition of the home – coincidentally scheduled on the same day he died – was intervened at the last minute. When approached in May of this year regarding the heritage status of Ngara, the Kew residence where Whitlam was born in 1916, Victorian premier Denis Napthine and Planning Minister Matthew Guy declined to save the property. Boroondara Council had already approved demolition. However since Whitlam’s death on Tuesday the destruction of the home has been intervened by Guy, who applied for an Interim Protection Order, asking the council to reconsider. This likely means that the decision will be put on hold until after the November 29th election, where the historical merit of the home … Continue reading

Historic home Glen Alpine expected to sell for $4.5m – despite burning down

Glen Alpine

Glen Alpine, a historic 1886 homestead designed by celebrated architect John Horbury Hunt, is expected to have its sale for $4.5million go through any day now. However, between the sale agreement and its conclusion, there’s been a slight problem – it’s burnt down. The building, set on 1335 hectares near Tamworth NSW, was found ablaze by police around about midnight on Wednesday of this week. It was two days before the sale was due to settle, but currently court proceedings are looking into what insurance payment each party can receive. The buyers are still expected to conclude sales proceedings though, as they have already bought out a number of the neighbours to increase their land holding on site. The listing states that the 12-bedroom home, on an estate … Continue reading

House Rules couple Carole and Russell selling home renovated on show

Carole and Russell

It may not have been long since the current series reached its finale, but competing couple Carole & Russell from reality TV show House Rules have already put their renovated home up on the market. The Western Australian team told WA Today that they planned to keep the home if they won the first prize of the renovation contest, which was to have the mortgage on the property paid off. Becoming runners-up to Victoria’s Adam and Lisa, though, means that the sale of this home will hopefully fund their move to riverside suburb Ascot, where they intend to build a townhouse. Having bought it off Gumtree, Carole and Russell’s renovated home was riddled with structural problems. However their portrayal as ‘Aussie battlers’ was put under scrutiny when it … Continue reading
