Bookmaker Tom Waterhouse has a new house by the water, confirming rumours that started brewing in mid-November that he would be purchasing a Balmoral beachfront residence. The head of William Hill’s Australian operations reportedly bought the 1930s Mosman property with rare direct beach frontage, designed by acclaimed architect Ian Reeler, for $13million. From a family that started in the bookmaking business back in the 19th century, Tom Waterhouse and wife Hoda also own a duplex on the beach that cost them $3.5million back in 2008. Settlement papers were lodged earlier this year for the home that was last sold for $550,000 back in 1983. View the property here.

Toni Collette, star of Australian classic Muriel’s Wedding and TV series United States of Tara, has sold her home in Bronte, NSW for a reported $5.75million. Collette, who is based in LA with musician husband David Galafassi, sold the property shortly before Christmas. They bought the private hillside estate in 2011 for $5.5million, meaning this sale will not have covered their initial $325,000 stamp duty purchase outlay. The 5-bedroom residence is on a 1,100 square metre hillside block, “one of Bronte’s largest” – view the listing here.
