Australia’s recruitment ruler, Julia Ross is selling her Sydney home for more than $40 million. One of Sydney’s most esteemed homes, Villa del Mare was built in 1999 by developer Nati Stoliar and designed by Chris Norris. Toni Collette to sell Bronte cottage


Academy Award-nominated actor Toni Collette, the star of the TV series ‘United States of Tara’, and her musician husband, David Galafassi, are selling their hillside house at Bronte because the renovation rebuild costings defied property logic. Their 1885 weatherboard cottage on a 750-square-metre block in Bronte Road cost $4.4 million in mid-2009. They’ve since obtaining rebuilding approval, but have opted not to proceed given the rebuild construction tender quotes are understood to have tallied about $4 million.  The official application with Waverley Council suggested its minimal revamp cost would be $2.5 million. Set privately above the high side of the street, the four-bedroom house is one of the last remnants of the original Bronte Estate. The Melbourne Cup is not all about Melbourne, with several landmark properties having pedigree links to the big event. Here are some NSW properties that hold a bit of Cup history. Baroona, Whittingham Baroona, the striking High Victorian residence at Whittingham, near Singleton, is a 26-room house with observation tower. It stables housed two-time Melbourne Cup winner Peter Pan. The marketing suggested the Victorian gothic stable block was the birthplace and final resting place of Peter Pan. Baroona was known as Rosemount when the initial house was built in 1829. It last sold when listed with $3 million-plus hopes earlier this year. Melbourne’s $Million club grows


There are 40 suburbs across Melbourne that have $1 million-plus median house prices, according to RP Data. This is four more than last year and 18 more than recorded over the year to June 30, 2009. Toorak, with 111 house sales during the financial year, ranked as the most expensive suburb according to the RP Data list, with a $2.4 million median price. Toorak was the founding member of Melbourne’s million-dollar club, when 10 years ago it recorded 174 house sales resulting in a median price of $1.05 million. Deepdene was second priciest at $2.02 million – but from just 11 sales ranging from $1.55 million to $3.7 million.
