"The site affords long, southern views down the local river system, while having a yard with views north over the local village. The house was planned around this northern outdoor space which incorporates a covered terrace / dining area. The "L" shaped plan protects the external areas from the prevailing cold southerly breezes, while opening up to the cooling summer breezes from the north.

The terrace area has a sliding door and screen system that retracts completely into a wall cavity. The bedroom wing is situated half a level above this main living area therefore shading this area from the hot westerly afternoon sun. The wing has a series of louvre windows within the building plan and external screening to allow cross ventilation through this area.
